I thought that I would tell you a little bit about myself as we all want to hear the artists story and find out what experience they have in their chosen subjects.
Living in Penkridge in the heart of Staffordshire UK, surrounded by canals and Cannock Chase, is a great source of creative inspiration as I love walking and can lose myself for hours.
I am a practicing artist/teacher working in textiles and painting, because I love to share my knowledge I have chosen four creative areas that I particularly specialise in to teach. They are: wet feltmaking, needle felting, batik painting and painting with alcohol inks.
As you will see in my gallery I particularly love using colour as I have been inspired by the art and textiles on my many travels to countries like Bali, Bangkok, Mexico, Morocco and more.
My Art Training.
Completing a Foundation Art & Design, Textile Design Degree and then a Teaching qualification took 5 years and was hard work but fun!
I found that I loved exploring a wide range of creative techniques but had to narrow my choices and focus on one area. I loved textiles, painting, printing, weaving and touched on glass art in the second year. But my circumstances dictated that I had to focus on textiles studies.
My previous background was working in interior design and I ran a small interior design business from my workshop in my garden for many years. I loved to renovate my small modest houses, doing four over the years, I was not shy of a sledge hammer or fitting kitchens..... So you could say that I have been very self motivated and never afraid to throw myself in the deep end to make a better life for my daughter and myself.
For 16 years I taught part time in Further Education, SEN, textiles and art. As well as doing Artist in Residence work in schools, this was great fun working with 6 -8 yrs to create large wall-hangings out of woolly fibres and recycled materials.
I left my teaching position in 2016 to concentrate on my this teaching business and my own art work.
